Direct cremation: what to compare
Direct cremation normally means cremation without a prior viewing or funeral ceremony. A family may arrange a separate memorial afterward.
Compare containers consistently
Some price lists have a lower option when the family supplies a suitable container. Compare provider-supplied container options with one another, then ask about an urn and whether a temporary container is included.
Understand the care pathway
Ask who collects your loved one, where they are cared for, which crematory is used and how identification is maintained. Confirm who will contact you and how the remains will be returned.
Ask about timing
Ask what documents and approvals are outstanding, when the provider expects cremation to occur, and whether the quoted price includes sufficient refrigeration. Do not rely on a guaranteed date without the provider confirming the necessary approvals.
Keep ceremony costs separate
A later memorial, private goodbye or witnessed cremation can have separate fees. Request each option as its own line item so you can choose without losing sight of the core package.
